McCandless family
H&F 1940-2: Obituary: John Bloore: "On January 14 the Lord was pleased to call home His servant, our beloved brother George McCandless. Born in 1862, he had reached the age of 78 years, having served the Lord for over fifty years in this country and Canada. The early period of his ministry was largely spent in gospel work, and while ever happy and spiritually fresh in preaching the simple gospel to the unsaved, much of his later years were filled with self-sacrificing service to the Lord’s people in the assemblies throughout the two countries mentioned. Through those years the Lord permitted him to know not a little of sorrow, and to be tested by many heart-wrenching difficulties; but in this crucible of trial the Lord so formed His servant in spirit and judgment that he gave to His people ministry which touched the heart and exercised the conscience in a way ever humble, gracious, and faithful.
This will live in the memory of all who knew him, while his unremitting service without thought of selfish gain or seeking of place among his brethren will not be forgotten as an example of ways that be in Christ. Let us remember that we are called upon to remember those who have thus spoken to us the Word of God, and “imitate their faith.” Our brother passed away at his own home in Philadelphia after an illness of about a week. The funeral services were largely attended, and gave evidence of the sincere affection in which he was held. We wait here, as he too, but in the rest of the Lord’s presence, for the hour of joyful reunion at His coming. Meanwhile may increased prayerful exercise mark us and greater earnestness in service while we await that hour.

Mory family
Around 1900, Mr. Mory built a 4-story apartment building at 5917 Chestnut St., and rented the entire first floor to the brethren, where it "flourished and grew". Ironside, Booth and others spoke here at special meetings.
