Following more than fifteen years of prayer and sowing the seed, Église évangélique de Chicoutimi was officially launched in the fall of 1977 with twenty-four believers, that number doubling in a little over a year. Such growth was, of course, part of Québec’s evangelical explosion which lasted for a good half-dozen years.
A special feature of this assembly was a School of Formation to prepare leaders for the assemblies in the north. This continued for thirteen years and proved to be very effective. Over the years no less than six couples from this assembly have been commended to the work with five of these still serving among assemblies in the Saguenay-Lac-Saint-Jean region. One of these, [[Denis Simard]] together with his wife, Donna, established the work at La Baie.
For a half-dozen years following its official beginning, the assembly met in homes and rented facilities. Rents being what they were and unable to find facilities to meet their needs, it was decided to undertake the construction of their own edifice. By the spring of 1984 the current building was ready for occupancy.
