"After 3 1/2 months in Deland, Florida we are now in Riviera, a little place near West Palm Beach. We hope to be here for about two weeks only, as there is not the need here compared to the former place. There are few laborers in this part of the South and fewer in the summer time. Therefore, we have decided to remain here for the summer as well as the winter, and not go to the state of Maine this summer as we have done for a number of years."

"Since we came north we have labored around the New England states, and have also visited Nova Scotia. Was able to take part in the Pugwash Junction Conference, which was the largest they have had. It was good to meet again a number who were saved 25 years ago when brother John T. Dickson and I had the joy of seeing a real awakening in that section. The hall was so crowded that the Christians were asked to remain outside during the gospel meeting so that the unsaved ones might get a seat. It is a great yearly event for the scattered Christians of the Province. Some came from New Brunswick, Cape Breton, N.S., Prince Edward Island and various other parts of Nova Scotia. Brethren like Mr. Ansley Goodwin and W.N. Brennen were missed, but it was good to see the younger brethren of the Province taking hold of the work in connection with convening the conference. In years past Mr. John Knox McEwen's voice was often heard at this conference, but he with others are with the Lord, but fruit for God remains. On the way home from Nova Scotia we had a meeting at Moncton, N.B. (where our brother Isaac McMullen makes his home). It was good to be meeting the Christians there again. The state of Maine is a large and needy state with only two very small assemblies. One in Augusta, which is the capital of the state and another at Westbrook. Surely a good field for godly young men to open up work for the Lord. We had a few meetings in Augusta, Maine. We hear of one young man who is exercised about that needy state. The Lord encourage him and the Lord's people also." * LOI 1947-9: Maine:

The state of * LOI 1948-2: James McCullough (Stratford, Conn. is a large , and needy state with only two very small assemblies. One in Sam Rea (Hatboro, AugustaPA: "After laboring for some time and seeing blessing in Maine, which is the capital of the state these brethren visited Nova Scotia and another at Bethany Gospel HallPrince Edward Island. They returned home in December." * LOI 1948-7: James McCullough (Stratford, MEWestbrookConn.: "Br. Surely a good field for godly young men McCullough hopes to open up engage in tent work for in the Lordneedy state of Maine this summer. We had a few meetings A nice work of grace was seen in AugustaMaine last year, Maineand there is exercise about following up that work with further meetings. We hear Some of one young man those who were saved last year travel 45 miles to remember the Lord each Lord's day. Some others are awaiting baptism and there still is a good interest among the unsaved. There is exercised about that a good prospect of a testimony being raised up in this needy state. The Lord encourage him and the prayers of the Lord's people alsoare asked for the work."
* LOI 1948-9: Samuel J. Rea (Hatboro, Pa.
"There are but two small assemblies in the State of Maine. Bro. J. McCullough of Bridgeport, Conn., and I tried a tent in the city of Augusta last year, but with little success. Then had cottage meetings in Madison, about 40 miles to the North, having met some Christians from there. We had splendid attendance from the start and several professed faith in Christ. One man who is a successful farmer and businessman preaches to everyone he meets. There is now a group of ten or twelve who have been carrying on a gospel testimony assisted by a brother from Augusta.
A couple got saved last year, whose home is conveniently located on the main highway, and where most of the meetings have been held. They were delighted to let us pitch the tent this year quite near their home. We feel thankful for the way being thus opened for the furtherance of the Gospel. This is our second week in the tent and we are much encouraged by seeing quite a nice number of unsaved attend almost every night. Last night was the largest meeting we have had and God was speaking we could feel. The man I referred to is one of a large family who are scattered over this territory and has quite an influence among them. We hope to see a real work done."

"When we last heard, towards the end of August, these brethren were in their seventh week of tent meetings in Madison, Maine. The weather has been cold and they found it necessary to use an oil stove to make the tent comfortable. In spite of this, the attendance has been encouraging, although there has been prejudice and opposition because of those who were saved last year being baptized and received into fellowship in Augusta, 40 miles away. Several are concerned and seem near the door of salvation. The brethren look for their salvation before the tent is taken down."
