According to his obit in the ''York Daily Record'', he was a printer by trade, and also employed by the IRS, and eleven years in the document room of the house of representatives. In 1930, he was employed as a clerk at the U.S. Capitol. In 1872, he was a printer in Cincinatti, Ohio. Wife: Helen E. Reiffe Schroeder (b. 1858 Union Twp., Adams, PA - d. 1923 Gettysburg, PA), daughter of Abraham Reiffe (b. 1806 - d. 1894 Hanover, York, PA) & Mary Jane Reiffe (b. 1822 - d. 1850). Children: Carrie Marie Ziegler Schroeder (b. 1891 Gettysburg, Adams, PA)
