Charles R. Grob was born in 1936, and raised among the open brethren assemblies of Cleveland, Ohio. His brother Homer Grob was an assembly-commended missionary in the Philippines in the early 1950's with Kenneth Ercil Engle, this author's father.

Charles relocated from Cleveland to Portland, Maine in 1959 and entered into fellowship with the newly planted Spring Hill Gospel Hall in the suburb of Westbrook, which was a hive from the older Bethany Gospel Hall founded in 1916 by Howard Franklin Stultz, Sr.. Charles served as a correspondent at Spring Hill from 1959-1965, replaced by Daniel F. Chick in 1966 who continues to serve in that role, alongside H.F.'s grandson Barry.

In 2003, Charles relocated to Pittsboro Christian Village, an assembly-supported retirement home in North Carolina where he died in 2020.
