Roy Buttery

Roy and Evelyn Buttery were commended to the Lord’s work in Quebec by Grace Gospel Chapel, Saskatoon, Saskatchewan, in 1954. Arriving in the province, they gave a helping hand in the Eastern Townships while acclimating themselves to their new field of service. From here they moved on to Drummondville in 1956 and, three years later, to Arvida in the Lac-Saint John region where, over the next forty-five years, they spent the major portion of their lives and ministry. Roy began by supervising the construction of the building which served to house the assembly at Arvida, now located in nearby Jonquière. 

Together they went on to establish and develop Camp Brochet, just north of Chicoutimi. A first summer camp was conducted in the area on the shores of Lac-Saint-Jean in 1965. Within two years the operation had been relocated to Lac Brochet where it continues to the present time. In 1987, leadership was turned over to the French Canadians. In the meantime, the Butterys laboured to establish an assembly at Chicoutimi, an effort which saw the light of day in 1977. This work also carries on today under French Canadian leadership. 

Roy has served on numerous service organizations established for the encouragement of the Lord's work in the province. These include, among others, News of Quebec, Christian Brethren Churches in Quebec, Programme de formation pour les Assemblées chrétiennes, and Conseils et services missionnaires.

In 2003, the Butterys moved back to Sherbrooke, in the Eastern Townships, building a house and continuing their ministry from this location. Evelyn passed away on July 1, 2020, at the age of 95.
