Thomas Chairs Bush was an itinerant open brethren preacher based in Waxahachie, Texas. He married Laura Wise at Ellis, TX on Oct. 25, 1895. He was born Sept. 15, 1866 in Kentucky, a son of Dr. William N. Bush (b. 1835 Decatur Co., GA - d. 1900 Lancaster, Garrard, KY) & Osee E. Salters Bush (b. 1837 Garrard Co., KY - d. 1909 St. Louis, MO).
Paternal
Dr. Bush was a physician, who specialized in allopathy, for many years, in 1860 at Cut Off, Walton, Georgia, then from 1870 until his death, in Lancaster, Kentucky. He was described as "one of most successful practictioners, his judgment always being sought and relied upon in serious cases". It was also said that he was "a man of extraordinary intellect and kept well up in his profession. We never knew a more kind-hearted or more sympathetic man than was he, nor have we ever seen a more attentive physician to his patients. He was ready at all hours and at any time to go to the relief of any sufferer, even when he knew he would not receive one cent in pay for the trip." He served in the Confederate Army during the Civil War. William was a son of farmers, Samuel Bush (b. 1797 GA) & Nancy Bush (b. 1805 N.C.)
Maternal
Osee was a member of the well-known Salter family of Central Kentucky, a daughter of Gabriel Jones Salter (1808-1874 Garrard Co., KY) & Barbara Allen Marksbury Salter (1812-1888 Garrard Co., KY).
Gabriel's father, Michael Salter, was born in 1754 in Virginia, lived in Pennsylvania 1775-1783, and married Osee Reed in Garrard Co., KY in 1799. It is unknown when either the Salters or the Reeds emigrated. Gabriel was a fifer (musician) in Col. Hazen's regiment during the Revolutionary War, and his ancestor Matthew Salter was born in 1695 in Boston, Massachusetts.
Barbara's parents married in 1794 at Lincoln, KY, and her paternal ancestor, Samuel Douglas Marquess Marksbury I (b. 1663 Somerset, Eng. - d. 1745 Prince William, VA settled in the U.S. prior to 1711.
