Gerrit Jan Hoogenakker and his family were among the earliest settlers of Pella, arriving in [[New York]] on Aug. 3, 1854 with the destination of [[Iowa]], emigrating from the Netherlands. Their son Adrian was the earliest known correspondent at the [[Pella Meeting Room, IA|Pella Meeting Room]], active prior to 1878. By 1922, Adrian's children Gerrit, Timothy, and Johanna were living in Des Moines, [[Iowa|IA]].
