John Franklin Springer was born in 1866 in Hagerstown, [[Maryland]]. By 1900, he was living in Erie, and he is presumed to have broken bread with his family in their home, affiliated with the exclusive brethren. He also was serving as principal of Erie Academy in 1903. This assembly met thru at least 1905, and he may have founded the Erie Bible Depot which published gospel tracts for many years. He was also an inventor, by trade. By 1910, he had relocated to New York City, [[New York]] where he was self-employed as a writer and publisher of a magazine, and died in Manhattan in 1943.
John married Amelia L. Herring (b. 1866 MD), the daughter of Charles A. Herring (b. 1844 MD) and his wife Anna J. Dowler Herring (b. 1835 Williamsport, MD). The Springers had three children:
** Flora Ann Springer
** Carlie Springer
