A brother named [[Alexander Hume Rule]] (1843-1906) from Des Moines, Iowa, gave a report on December 27th, 1892 into an assembly missionary publication known as "Letters of Interest" (printed by A.J. Alexander "A.H." is credited as having started the first assembly in Des Moines, [[Iowa]]: the [[Des Moines Meeting Room, IA|Des Moines Meeting Room]] in the Fall of 1880, from a foreword of an online book of his at [https://bibletruthpublishers.com/foreword/alexander-hume-rule/selected-ministry-of-a-h-rule-volume-1/a-h-rule/la87662 Bible Truth Publishers]. He was born in Scotland, raised Presbyterian, coming to the United States in 1852, and settled on a farm in Neponset Township, Bureau County, Illinois, and introduced to the Brethren PB while serving with a Presbyterian mission in VintonEgypt, Iowa in 1874and reading William Kelly. Unknown if his mother was related to the Enlightenment philosopher David Hume (1711-1776), though both were from [[Scotland]].
Rule was a graduate of Monmouth Seminary in 1871, now a part of Pittsburgh Theological Seminary;
