1883 @ 408 WEdwin was a great-grandson of Stephen William Johnson (b. Adams St1749 Norwalk, [[Connecticut|CT]] - d.1834 Albany, [[New York|NY]]) and Stephen Putnam (b. 1728 Sutton, Worcester, [[Massachusetts|MA]] - d. 1803 Northampton, Hampshire, MA), veterans of the Revolutionary War, according to [Vol. 16 https://www.ancestry.com/discoveryui-content/view/1901663:61157] of the ''Lineage Book of the Charter Members of the DAR.
According to that record, Johnson was "one of the 'Mohawk Indians' who threw the tea overboard in Boston Harbor. He enlisted, 1776, in Capt. Samuel Keeler's company and was taken prisoner at Fort Washington." Putnam was "a private in the expedition to Canada in Capt. Elisha Whitcomb's company, Col. Timothy Bedell's New Hampshire regiment".  Stephen was also a brother of Gen. Rufus Putnam (b. 1738 Sutton, MA - d. 1824 Marietta, [[Ohio|OH]]).
