* L&L 1943-6: "Robt. S. Thompson was able to take meetings at Manvel, Texas. He is gaining in health slowly. Mrs. Thompson is seeing a fine interest in the children's meetings being held in the garage in their home in South Houston, Texas."
* L&L 1943-10: "Robert I. Thompson was able recently to have two weeks at Manvel, Texas. The attendance during the first week was very good, but school opening during the second week kept many away, however toward the end there were a good number out again. Majority of children attending were of Italian parentage, and knew little or nothing of the Scripture, so it was good soil for sowing the seed. He is now in a new district west of Fort Worth, Texas, near a war factory. 'Homes have been built by workers and it is a unique opportunity of being first on the ground. Purpose holding open air meetings for about three weeks outside the home of one of the local Christians whose burden for these people brought me here. We look for blessing in this new work.'"
* L&L 1943-12: "John Rankin had meetings during October in Houston, Pineview and Manvel, Texas. After the Conference he went to San Antonio, where he has had three meetings weekly in Kentucky Hall and three with E.D. Dresch in the Mexican meetings. These meetings are in Spanish and a reverent hearing is given to the word spoken. They have three nice buildings."

* LOI 1945-12: Robert Curry, 3225 Charleston St., Houston, TX: "We plod on, occasionally seeing a little blessing in the gospel. We spent last Lord's day with the little assembly in Manvel, Texas, about 30 miles from Houston. They had an all day conference, brethren John Dickson, W.A. Cook (missionary from [[Argentina]] and Robt. Thompson, ministered the word. The Christians were helped and a number of strangers heard the gospel."

* LOI 1946-12: Houston, TX: H.W. Dedman: "The 45th annual conference was held in the Houston Assembly Hall, with Pineview and Manvel assemblies cooperating. It proved a time of happy fellowship, over 80 visitors from other aprts attending. The ministry was Christ-exalting and practical in character. Among those who spoke were brethren Roland Hill, Halliday, Rouse, Bush, G. Rainey, L. Rainey, L. Wilson, Hillis, Kessler and Schlief. The weather was ideal and that made things of a physical nature most enjoyable and thus helped make the conference a time of blessing to all."

This week we are having meetings at Dallas. We have found good interest and appreciation, especially in regard to the exposition of the Word. This type of ministry seems to be a much-felt need wherever one labors.

"During the last number of weeks I have been circulating in the South, attempting with the Lord's good help, to bring a little help and cheer to His people in little assemblies here and there. Am glad to say that in some of the places visited, definite progress appears to have been made within the last few years.
In Asheville, [[North Carolina|N.C.]], the hall has been added to, and there is a good and growing Sunday School work and Gospel effort. In New Orleans, nice contacts are being made through the Center and the work extended. In Lafayette, [[Louisiana|La.]], there is a little company appreciative of the Word of God and desirous of lengthening its cords.
In the Houston vicinity three weeks were spent: in the Houston vicinity three weeks were spent: in Houston itself, Manvel, Melrose and South. Melrose has a comparatively new hall and a consistent effort is being made to reach the people of the community. In South Houston a new hall is planned in the near future, with the likelihood of an encouraging start in it, following upon Gospel activity already carried on.
After touching Fort Worth, I called at Oklahoma City, and Wichita. In each of these places new meeting-places have been erected within the last few years, in Wichita quite recently. There seems to be a desire to go on in the ways of the Lord, and an appreciation of ministry given.
Here in [[Hutchinson Gospel Chapel, KS|Hutchison]] [sic] the Lord has helped in ministry and it is a joy to see His people going on happily for Him and with each other. But if there is progress, it is still true that 'there remaineth yet very much land to be possessed'. Workers in some of these fields are not plentiful and much prayer should be going up to God on behalf of those who labor in them, that they may be sustained and encouraged."
* L&L 1948-11: South Houston Bible Chapel, South Houston, Texas:
"A new gospel hall has been built at the corner of 11th St. and Spencer Hwy., in South Houston. Those mainly responsible are several brethren who have been in fellowship for many years and live in this section, also a number who have left the sects recently and have been in fellowship for a short time, and others who have been saved at different times in meetings. This meeting has been formed in happy fellowship with the meeting from which they have gone out and with other meetings in this section... this being the third that has thus been formed. The other two are the Pineview and Manvel. (Another new work is going on in a new hall in the Melrose section.)
Those taking part in the ministry on the opening day of Sept. 26 were Mr. Halliday of San Antonio and Brethren Curry and Dedman of Houston, and Robert Thompson of South Houston. The little building was filled to capacity and large numbers were seated outside and were able to hear with the use of loudspeakers. The usual Monday afternoon Children's Bible Hour previously held in Robert Thompson's garage now moves to the Chapel and the first gathering brought in a large number. The building has five classrooms while another two will soon be completed. The correspondent is B.S. Avenell, 600 Sixth Ave., South Houston, Texas."

* L&L & AA 1949-9: Houston, TX: "The 48th annual conference of Christians gathered according to Matthew 18:20, in the Houston district, will be held in the Gospel Hall, 2402 Louisiana St., on Oct. 21-23, with prayer meeting on the 20th. This will be a joint conference of all the meetings: Houston, Pineview, Manvel, Melrose and South Houston. Visitors are requested to advise of their coming a little in advance. "When Bro. J.T. Dickson returned with R.M. Zander from Manvel, Texas, where they had seen precious souls saved, he was worn out and in poor health. With Mrs. Dickson, he left April 16 by car for [[Florida]], but they had to finish the journey by train. For some weeks he has been under the care of a doctor who diagnosed his case as diabetes and is treating him accordingly. The Lord's people might join with us in prayer for our brother at this time. I had the privilege of ministering in the Houston area and once again rejoice over the hunger of the Lord's people for His Word. Dickson first took me to Manvel 16 years ago, and from the first visit until the present it has been a fruitful field. Am sowing the good seed in the out islands of the Bahamas, and will remain as the Lord leads. Abaco has been a place of hard plowing, and patient sowing, but the Lord has given the joy of seeing souls won to Him."

Robert Thompson, South Houston, TX: "Our Argentine brethren moved out from the old South Houston Chapel two weeks before its closing, moving to a Spanish speaking area and opening a new chapel called Iglesia Christiana Evangelica (Spanish Bible Chapel). In their few months there they have seen much to encourage. Dr. Norman Hamilton visited them recently, renewing former associations with them in Argentine assemblies. Our brethren have increased their weekly Spanish broadcast to six days per week over KLVL, a local Spanish speaking station; good response is reported.
Since the South Houston Bible Chapel moved to its new location, we have doubled our attendance at the 11 a.m. hour. We were blessed at the outset by a visit from Leonard Lindsted and the salvation of a young lad. Recently we baptized four of our young people. We have continued the Monday afternoon "Sunday" school with increasing attendance. This is the 30th year of this class. No handicraft or other usual attractions.. just carried on as if it were a Sunday morning Sunday school.
Recent visiting brethren at Manvel Gospel Chapel included Ray Zander. At the Sunday evening service, three young people were baptized."

Earlier I had two weeks of meetings with a new assembly in Pelkie, [[Michigan]]. They meet in homes but got the town hall for the series on ''Egypt to Canaan''. The Lord gave definite fruit. In November, I hope to be in Guthrie, [[Oklahoma]] for a series. I value prayer for God's blessing for a series. I value prayer for God's blessing and enabling."

Pierre Trudeau's son, [https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Michel_Trudeau Michel] (1975-1998), attended tent meetings in Portage la Prairie, [[Manitoba|MB]]. In Washington, [[Georgia|GA]], the young son of one of the Christians and a man who had just been visited in the neighborhood professed salvation.
These are just a few of the many reports [Uplook has] received throughout the year. Whether in the assembly building, in a tent, in a rented room, on a college campus, at a local festival, or in the downtown street, the glorious message of salvation is being offered and the Lord is blessing!"
