From Alex I's [https://www.newspapers.com/image/632716156 obit] in the Montreal Gazette: Late Alex Mearns: "Alexander Mearns, for 40 years an employee of [https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Holt_Renfrew_Ogilvy James Angus Ogilvy's], Ltd., and for nearly a decade chief of the maintenance department, died on Saturday morning after a brief illness. He was 81 years of age. "Daddy" Mearns as he was known to employees of the St. Catherine street department store, was born in [[Scotland]]. He went to sea as a lad, sailing as an apprentice to a ship's carpenter on a boat that plied between London and [[Australia]]. His travels finally brought him to Montreal where he decided to establish himself.
