Our dear sister was saved May 11, 1930, in Toronto, baptized, and received into fellowship in the Pape Avenue assembly. They returned in 1960 because of the political situation in Cuba, and then moved to Orillia in 1962 where they made their home for 35 years while her husband fulfilled his ministry across this continent. For the last 10 years, they were residents at Elim Homes in Waubaushene. Arnold predeceased her by 5 months and 10 days. The funeral from the Waubaushene Gospel Hall was taken by her two sons, Alan and Andrew. “…Whose faith imitate, considering the outcome of their manner of life.”

[https://truthandtidings.com/2006/02/tidings-105 T&T 2006-2]: Homecalls: "Harry E. Bates of Unionville, ON, on October 4, age 95. He was awakened to his need of a Savior during the summer of 1930 through a tract that was handed to him on a street in Toronto. The last five words of the tract were, “Ye must be born again.” He recalled reading those same five words in his mother’s Bible. He was a faithful and humble brother who had a zeal for the gospel, and had the joy of pointing some of his own children and relatives to Christ. He was in fellowship at Pape Avenue for over 60 years, and latterly at Unionville (Bethany Lodge). Please pray for his wife Shirley, a daughter and two sons in Christ, six grandchildren, and two great-grandchildren, some of whom also are in Christ."

Her daughter and two sons gave testimony at the large funeral to her gentle, yet godly influence in their lives. Paul Markle spoke of the believer’s confidence at the graveside."
