LOI 1966-10: With the Lord: "Lionel Andrews Hunt passed to be with the Lord on August 19 in Toronto, Ont. He is survived by his widow Enid, and children: Claire (Mrs. H. Alexander), Dan, Howard, Mary (Mrs. Ross Reid), and Elizabeth. Lionel Hunt grew up in a Christian home in [[Alberta#Edmonton|Edmonton]], Alta. The family later moved
to Vancouver, and at the age of 15 Lionel acknowledged Jesus to be his Lord and Saviour. Shortly afterward he was received into fellowship at Mount Pleasant Hall. As a young man he took an active part in the work of Kitsilano Hall, which involved him in Sunday school teaching. Work among children was to develop into his life's ministry.
His work as a professional engineer took him successively to Toronto, [[Quebec#Montreal|Montreal]], St. Catharines and back to Vancouver. His first large Children's Mission developed in Montreal in the late thirties, and these Missions were to characterize his future work. He had been greatly influenced through reading ''The Conversion of Children'' by E. Payson Hammond, and became convinced that children could be led to saving faith in Jesus Christ in their young years. The Lord later opened up the way for him to devote his full time to ministry among children, and he was commended to this work by eleven Vancouver assemblies, as the family moved to Toronto.
The last ten years of his ministry, based at the Leaside Bible Chapel, were full and rewarding as he ministered to children despite failing health, and saw hundreds trust the Saviour. ''Handbook on Child Evangelism'' is one of his most widely read books, and has helped many to set up Children's Missions. In addition his book ''Fruitful Child Evangelism'' is a valued reference work, while many children have enjoyed ''Aurie's Wooden Leg. All three books
were published by Moody Press. Evangelical leaders in Toronto recognized the value of his work, and through his vision they united to plan the Metro Children's Missions, held in 80 churches throughout Toronto 1966-1967. His life has spoken to many, and at his passing to higher service, at least two young men expressed their desire to devote more
time to work among children.
Words read at Mr. Hunt's funeral service will continue to challenge us: "I charge thee before God, and the Lord Jesus Christ... Preach the Word; be instant in season, and out of season; endure afflictions, do the work of an
evangelist, make full proof of thy ministry" (II Tim. 4:l-5)."
