He served during WWII in the U.S. Army as a bomb recon "instructor at major troop installations in the southern states" He was discharged from active duty in Jan. 1946, and from the reserve in 1954 with the rank of Lt. Col. John had two sisters: Mary Leonard Saint & Mrs. Everett Seal.
