"Martin W. Golden, a Rochester native and founder of a Buffalo-area company, died Sunday in Manatee County, Fla., after a long illness. He was 74. Mr. Golden had a winter home in Manatee County, but spent most of his time in western New York at his Grand Island home. In 1972 — two years after moving from Chili to Grand Island — Mr. Golden founded Elmar Industries, which manufactures machines to fill containers with food, petrochemicals and pharmaceuticals, said his son, Martin W. Golden Jr., of San Jose, Calif.
A 1932 graduate of Madison High School, Mr. Golden went to California “to find the pot of gold” and attended the University of California at Berkeley, his son said. For about a decade — starting in 1938 — Mr. Golden worked forEastman Kodak Co. in color processing. In 1948, he did industrial engineering work at the Pfaudler Co., where he worked until 1970. “He really started from his brains. He wasn’t born with a silver spoon in his mouth,” his son
said. Mr. Golden also attended night classes at Rochester Institute of Technology while he worked in Rochester.
Mr. Golden oversaw the expansion of his company and — in addition to the Depew headquarters — added manufacturing sites in Santa Clara, Calif, and Dundee, Scotland. The company also has sales offices in Belgium, Germany, Florida, Kentucky and Illinois. “For a person who should have been conservative, he was quite farsighted and said, ‘Let’s go for it,’ ” he said. Mr. Golden, who designed the machines, was very consumer oriented and quickened the process to where 1,000 cans per minute were filled with a certain product, such as soup, baby food or medicine, his son said. Last month, Martin W. Golden Jr. became chairman and CEO of the company, and Mr. Golden assumed the role of chairman emeritus.
While in Rochester, Mr. Golden was a layman at his church, the Congress Avenue Bible Chapel. While he lived in Buffalo, he belonged to the Amherst Bible Chapel. “He was a very devout Christian, and he did a lot of church work,” said his sister, Lillian Tomalty, of Brighton. He enjoyed boating and fishing while he stayed in Florida and was a member of various industrial organizations, Golden said. Mr. Golden also is survived by his wife, Eunice, and two other sisters — Clara Anderson, of Rochester, and Eleanor White of Kissimmee, Fla."

AoL 1917-4: Elmira, N.J.: "Mr. Harold Harper had three weeks of meetings here in a Baptist church. Several professed to accept Christ, and Christians were much refreshed. Following this, he went to Rochester and had three weeks of meetings with what used to be his home assembly. One young man confessed Christ and a few others took their place with the meeting there. He is now at Buffalo, helping with a number of young men in Cheektowaga, who have come out of the Lutheran church. He expects to be in Ebenezer Hall, Hamilton, Ont., and other place in [[Canada]].
L&L 1949-7: With the Lord: "Druery E. Harper was called home to be with the Lord on June 4. He was born in Hamilton, Ontario, May 18, 1857 and was born again in that city as a young man. He was identified with the Assembly in McNab St., Gospel Hall for some years before moving to Rochester, New York, where he was in happy fellowship with the Christians in Carter St. Assembly from its very beginning. He was a good man, loved by all who knew him. Two
weeks before his home call he celebrated his 92nd birthday, being present with the saints at the Lord’s Supper, and announcing the hymn, “Worthy, O Lamb of God art Thou!” Seven children survive him. His son Harold M. Harper, spoke the Word at the funeral service."
