Hutchinson Gospel Chapel is a healthy open brethren assembly that was founded in the mid-1940's by Richard Edwin Burson, in Reno Co., Kansas, west of Wichita. It was originally known as Hutchinson Bible Hall until 1957-1958 when it rebranded as its current name.
Richard pastored a Baptist church in Hutchinson in the 1940's, and was cleaning out at attic for an elderly woman in Salina, Kansas and found Help and Food magazines, and asked if he could have them, thinking they were cookbooks, and it was what introduced him to the assemblies. Kansas Bible Camp was also founded about that time by Richard, which is still active today, having operated solely by faith for all these years. From 1943-1954+, Richard edited a devotional known as The Word that went all over the U.S. and Canada.
In 1965, Richard started an Awana club with teenage John Bloom, Dan Burson, Phil Corkins and others, that lasted at least thru 1968 when Dan left for Literature Crusades. About 2019, Caleb Ruter & Guy Spragg started another Awana was started that has proven to be continued fruit. From the early 1990's thru the late 2010's, there was a weekly "Body Builder" newsletter.
In the early 2000's, two new assemblies hived off due to space and health challenges at 6th & Elm, and came back together in 2020 in the current building.
