John Yancey Anderson

John Yancey Anderson, age 22, Pfc. 2nd Marines, was killed on the island of Saigon. He was saved some years ago at meetings held by Fred Nugent in Burnsville, North Carolina, and was in fellowship with the Newport News Assembly. While with us he manifested the spirit of Christ and bore a good testimony in his daily work. He spent harrowing days in both the invasion of Guadalcanal and Tarawa.
John was born January 23, 1922 to Zebedee Tildon Anderson (1878-1942) and Esther Lena Wilson Anderson (1889-1979) at Price's Creek, Yancey, NC. His siblings were:
- Sue Darcus Anderson (1906-1958) married Coyle Thomas Atkinson (1917-1968)
- Craig Thomas Anderson (1908-1968) married Atlas Crain (1913-2007)
- Alma Virginia Anderson (1910-1987) married Richard Leroy McCoy (1911-1968)
- Ossie Mae Anderson Lanning (1913-2004) married Henry Berlin Lanning (1908-1995) and lived 10 years Pittsboro Christian Village before her death;
- Georgia Wilson Anderson (1920-1990) married Fletcher Fabious Edwards (1920-1973)
- Bernie Edwin Anderson (1924-2005), WWII Navy Vet, married Catherine Jackson in 1981;
- Bernice Edna Anderson (1924-2013) married James Edward Rumbough (1944-1986)
- Madge Anderson (1927-2016) married Joseph Kazlusky
- Carroll Jackson Anderson (1928-2009) married Ruby Nell Summey (1931-2013)
