Ossie Mae Anderson Lanning
From BrethrenPedia
Ossie May Anderson was born Aug. 4, 1913 around Jacks Creek, Yancey, NC to Zeb and Lena Anderson. She spent the latter part of her childhood living in Jefferson, Tennessee. On Sept. 30, 1936 she married Henry Berlin Lanning (b. 1908) who was born in Swannanoa, TN in the same county of Buncombe where they were later married.
They spent the earliest years of their marriage living in that county in Newport News, VA which is where her brother John Yancey Anderson was in fellowship with an Assembly there, after coming to know Christ at meetings held by Fred Nugent in Burnsville, NC. Her brother was later killed in action on the island of Saipan during WWII where it was reported to Light & Liberty in Jan. of 1945. See John's bio above for more information.
Around 1940, Ossie and Henry moved to Asheville, NC. They had three daughters and two sons:
- Judy Lanning Sammons, of South Point, OH
- Margaret Redling, of Raleigh, NC
- Saundra Doby, of Raleigh, NC
- Charles Lanning, of Reno, NV
- Henry Lanning, Jr., of Conyers, GA
After or around the time Henry passed in 1995, Ossie moved into Pittsboro Christian Village, a Brethren owned retirement complex near Raleigh, NC where she lived until her death on March 7, 2004. The service to celebrate her life was given by Pastor Earl Sammons (son-in-law?) in the Worship Center of Pittsboro Christian Village, and she was buried at Guilford Memorial Park in Greensboro.
